We all know that photos are integral to our craft. And one thing that can elevate our pages from good to great are the photographs that we add.

I am constantly trying to take that elusive perfect shot - the one that captures the atmosphere of a place, the mood of the moment or the personalities of the people I am celebrating.

If you are like me and are searching for ways to improve your photos to add some wow factor and extra interest to your pages, this article featured in the Creating Keepsakes September 2010 issue, is a great way to start inspiring you to do just that.

We have lots happening this month so now that the kids are back at school we are getting organised!

First up in March is our Scrapbooking Camp. There are many excited women that need a well-deserved break!

Class #1. 17th & 24th March 9:00am - 11:00am
I have designed a double-page sketch & have teamed it with 2 interpretations of that sketch to help you create a striking layout. One layout has a 'Good Times' theme which is pretty versatile & the second layout is all about the growing boy. Each layout features 2 large photos & 4 smaller shots. I have used Kaiser Craft's On the Move collection for this month's kit.

Class #2. 17th & 24th March 11:30am - 1:30pm
This layout gives you the chance to use a panoramic or series of photos. This leaves the theme open: you could use multiple landscape photos, a sequence of photos or even before & after shots. We will use stamping to update leftover letters & add a digital journaling card to the page. Also, embellishments for the page can be altered to suit whatever theme you choose.

This class is focusing on using the Cricut for creating & embellishing a double-page layout. It has a large photo & title on one page for dramatic impact. ‘Celebrate’ is the title, which suits a multitude of themes & a sub-title is added to the layout to personalise your layout. Kit choices are pink & green with hearts -or- red, white, blue & stars. Please specify when booking.

Desktop Wallpaper

I love changing my desktop wallpaper. I usually do this once a month and I found this great link: http://www.visualswirl.com/freebies/desktop-wallpapers-calendar-february-2012/

On a Mac all you have to do is right click on the wallpaper and click on 'set as background'. Not sure if you can do that on a PC, but you can right click on the wallpaper and click on 'save image as'. Then set the wallpaper as your desktop through your control panel.

Ribbon Storage

I don't know about you, but I always wonder if I'm storing my scrapbooking supplies the best way possible. I started to look around at ribbon storage in particular and found that there are so many different storage options, here are some I found:

I use a large glass jar like the above photo, this works well for me as I have lots of 1 metre and under lengths. I have recently started buying ribbon spools and will have to make a storage decision pretty soon!

The last few months of scrapbooking classes have been busy.. so busy that we have decided to offer a second round of classes each month! Please note that we need you to include the class number(s) and the date you wish to attend on the Class Booking Request form.

Class #1. 18th & 25th Feb 9:00am - 11:00am

A double-page sketch layout will be teamed with 2 interpretations of that sketch to help you create a striking layout. I have used Crate Paper's Peppermint collection and We R Memory Keepers Autumn Splendor paper. I have turned one of the layouts into two single pages for something different. Class #2. 18th & 25th Feb 11:30am - 1:30pm

Following on from last month's theme of using up your scraps, I thought I would give you some ideas to produce 6 or more cards using the smaller off cuts you have at home! We will be using stamps, sewing machine and even doodling. All you will need is a trimmer, adhesive, a couple of sheets of cardstock to make the card bases and lots of scraps. Teacher: Stacey

Class #3. 18th & 25th Feb 2:00pm - 4:00pm

In this class we will be going a little bit old school. We will combine paper curling, inking and layering to create a two page layout with either a masculine or feminine colour scheme. This layout could suit many themes, however I have used photos taken at a Mariners Game. When booking in, please specify which colour scheme you prefer. Teacher: Philarney

In this class you will create a two page layout that is heritage inspired. My photos are black and white and date from the 1960s. The layout takes inspiration from this time in its choice of yellow as a focus colour, which is toned down by black, grey and white and teamed

and buttons to create a heritage-
style page.

Time saving ideas

With little time to spare over the Christmas and new year period, but with lots of photos to scrap, do you wonder how can you manage to create pages to celebrate all that you have done? Here are some ideas that might save you some time:

Choose co-ordinating papers and embellishments. This sounds obvious, but sometimes we need reminding that they are there for a purpose, which is to make scrapbooking faster and less complicated for the time poor.
Start with a sketch - again obvious, but a great way to begin. Some popular websites, that have something to offer both beginner and more experienced scrapbookers, include Becky Fleck’s Page Maps, Pencil Lines, Stuck Sketches, Sketch Support and Sketchabilities. Additionally, if you have a page that you have already created and really love, use the sketch again. If will look completely different using different colours and papers, and no-one will be any the wiser.
If you have particular photos in mind, you can find more specific inspiration in the form of challenges, many of which offer colour combinations to assist you in beginning to choose papers and embellishments. Sites that offer particular challenges include: The Color Room, Scrap the boys (yes the name does mean exactly what it says) as well as Kraft It Up (if you love your Kraft card). These websites also have their own design teams which offer examples of the challenges and sketches to give you further inspiration.
And lastly, if you have a favourite brand or scrapbooker check out their website and find inspiration from them to make an easy start to your pages.

I hope this has offered some inspiration that lets you keep you creating over this busy time of year.

Christmas Cards

Have you started making your Christmas cards? Maybe you have chosen to buy yours this year.

For those of you that are creating your own I thought I would share a couple of my cards and a link to some inspiration.

My Christmas card motto is: they have to be simple. I make around 30 Christmas cards for friends and family each year so I can't be fussing or agonising over the perfect layout or embellishments.

Here are a few of my quick cards from this year.

I use all my left over papers and off cuts, stamps, printed titles and even parts of cards from previous years.
If you need some fresh inspiration try Page Maps they have card sketches and examples.

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organise and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and share their favorite recipes.

Warning: It is as addictive as blog hopping :)

Hi Everyone!

After some consideration we have decided to change our class booking process. Now when you select the "click to book in" button you will be asked to submit you details on a booking request form. This will generate an automatic email giving you our bank account details to deposit the class fee into. Your teacher will then confirm your payment via email including any extra class details you may need.

We have worked hard to make this process as streamlined as possible, we hope you find it easy to use. Please email us if you have any questions.

This month's class combines a mix of techniques. On this double-page layout we will be using misting and masking to create a border and highlight the title; feature black cardstock to create drama and emphasise the bright colour scheme; and stamp to create the embellishments. The theme for my page is 'Friends' but this layout would suit other themes - including gardens or flowers - and has a feminine feel.
