January Classes 2013

As you are celebrating Christmas, we have been adding our finishing touches on our new look class release email!

It feels a bit strange releasing classes for January 2013 when 2012 hasn't finished yet.
Never the less we like to give you as much notice as possible, especially in January when lots of families are on their Summer holidays.

Thanks for your support this year, it has meant that we can keep doing what we love.. being creative!

Merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year.
Stacey and Philarney

Class #1.   Sat. 12 & 19 January   9 - 11am
Come and scrap your Christmas photos! You'll only need 3 to 5 nice photos to create this double layout. We will be doing some cutting, inking and making our own chevron embellishments. The kit will contain cardstock, papers from Kaiser Craft's Mint Twist Range and rhinestone strips.

Class #3.  Sat. 12 & 19 January   2 - 4pm
This class uses the combination of turquoise & black to create a fresh, summery layout. You can keep it simple by using 4”x 6” photos or add more photos. Mine is a birthday theme, but it would suit many themes. You also have the option to make a 3rd page, which is a front or last page for an album.

Kids Class   Thurs. 17 January   3:45 - 5pm
This month we are creating a beach themed layout. We are using a summery mix of blues and yellow to create a one-page layout. You will need three photos, two of them are 5" x 3.5" and one is 3.5" x 3.5". You can choose your cricut-cut embellishments and title.

Happy Halloween

If you're anything like me, the fact that you don't celebrate Halloween won't stop you from making Halloween decorations.
I saw the carved watermelon in the latest Woolworths magazine. I thought Ari would have fun helping me, turns out he wasn't the slightest bit interested!! I'm sure he will be interested when I make slushies from the frozen watermelon.
The Halloween hanger I saw on Pinterest. I used cardboard coasters (from the pub!), off cuts of cardstock and my Cricut - the George cartridge.

Creative kitchen

I decided to do some baking then realised I didn't have any mini muffin cases. I thought I would put my scrapping tools to use in the kitchen! I punched scalloped circles out of baking paper (which doesn't always cut out neatly) and cut a few slits around the circles. I sprayed the tray with oil then popped the circles in. If you have a helper get them to fill the muffin tray with mixture and pop in the oven.

Here is the yummy but healthy recipe :)

Keeping warm

We are starting to get some nice sunny days at the end of this long Winter. Hopefully it won't be long until Spring warmth is upon us.

2 of my friends just got their electricity bills... $900 and $1200! We were scared about this happening to us so we took drastic measures this Winter.

Luckily we have a North facing house which warms our living, dining and kitchen area during the day. At night instead of using the heater and electric blankets we opted for wheat packs.

You can buy these at the chemist and other places but if you have a sewing machine or can borrow one, then you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. Even I can make them and I am not an expert sewer by any stretch of the imagination!

You just need a bag of wheat (from an organic shop or health food store), material - I just used scraps and of course a sewing machine with cotton.

Here are a few pics of how I put mine together - very basic!

Fold a piece of material in half
Sew along two edges
Double-stitched, one side is left open
Turn it inside out
Approximately half fill with wheat
Sew the open edge closed,
hand stitch for a neater edge!
Pop in the microwave with a cup of
water for one and a half to two minutes
depending on your microwave

DIY Clock

I had been searching for months for a clock for the studio. I couldn't find anything that I was 100% happy with (in my price range of course)! One Sunday morning my best friend and I were browsing through Terrigal's Car Boot Sale when I saw an MDF clock. It got me thinking... maybe I could just decorate over the existing design. At just $3, I had to at least give it a go. Here are the results and a tutorial on my DIY clock.

I adhered 2 sheets of patterned paper
with double sided tape, for this
design I have chosen the seam
to be on the diagonal

Then I turned it over and trimmed the
excess paper with a Stanley knife

I sanded the edges to give a distressed
and more finished look

For the centre I cut 2 squares. Then
made a large hole in the centre and
cut an opening from the hole to one
of the corners

To adhere them I used double-sided
tape and to make it straight I used a
Line it Up tool

I added Thickers numbers around
the centre square

Voila!
